Side Effects

I promised before that I would go over the side effects, of which I have been lagging. Anyways, I just wanted to first say that all the major side effects I noticed in the beginning of treatment have subsided.

The major side effects when starting were:

  1. Hyper kinetic gallbladder - overactive bile production in the small intestine
  2. Hypersomnia - inability to wake up
I believe that my body has now stabilized with the new lower level of cortisol and generally I feel great. I still feel sleepy in the mornings but I no longer have any trouble waking up. My gallbladder is no longer giving me explosive shits after eating food which is wonderful. Keep in mind the diarrhea was only after eating and did not continue through the day which made it manageable. That lasted for about a month and a half.

Some minor side effects that are still ongoing are general stinky head syndrome. The stuff stinks; so I generally try to rinse my head off after it has dried. Also, dandruff which I believe is mostly due to the allantoin. The level of dandruff waxes and wanes. This last batch I made had an excess amount of allantoin in it which has produced more dandruff that normal. The vitamin b-6 gave me headaches the first couple of days after adding it but those have gone away.

If this works and I obtain full regrowth I will likely remove the allantoin as I dont believe it will be needed anymore. And I will also begin testing other methods of transdermal delivery. All my ingredients have a molecular weight of less than 400 g/mol and other delivery systems may work. The DMSO however is such a potent anti-inflammatory that I have hesitant of taking it away completely.

On a side note, I broke my index finger about 10 years ago and it had lost quite a bit of mobility. Interestingly, since starting this treatment I have regained the ability to flex/bend it.

I am beginning to think that the keratolyic effect of allantoin combined with anti-inflammatories allows the body to regenerate instead of repair by loosening keratinized cells at such a rate that the body is able to heal with out going into repair mode.

Pictures 11-28-2011

Sorry everyone. Work and the holidays have been keeping me quite busy. I mentioned last time that I had added vitamin B6 to my mix to help decrease the amount of shedding. And I am happy to report that I have noticed a decrease in the numbers of hairs shedding. Also, I may be tripping out but my hair is really starting to feel thicker. In the last few weeks I have noticed an increase in new hairs but I suspect that they all aren't here to stay. I feel that it may take a couple shedding's before they are strong enough to stay.

Anyways on to the pictures.

Filaggrin and Hair Shedding

I have added vitamin b6 to my mix after reading this article. Click here to read.

I mentioned in previous post that I was seeing both increased hairs and increased shedding. Also, I pointed out that the hair bulb of the new cells were noticeably smaller. And so I began researching for something to add to my mix that will hopefully abate the hair shedding and increase the hair bulb(follicle matrix) size.

Filaggrin is known as a protein filament that is used to increase strength and structure to cells. Epithelial cells (which the hair matrix is mostly made of) use to filaggrin to bind themselves to keratin.

Vitamin B6 up-regulates mRNA expression of profilaggrin which derives into individual filaggrin proteins. So adding this will hopefully this will help with my hair shedding. I'll update later on if I notice less or more hair shedding.

There are toxicity problems with vitamin b-6 therefore I only add 250mg to my mix. This should result in 4-8 mg per day well below the RDA amount.

Also, I reduced the allantoin to 1% because of excess skin peeling. I'll post new pictures soon.

Nov 12th Pictures

I am a little disappointed right now because I think that this is going to take longer than I originally thought.  I have noticed some of the new hairs falling out and under examination I have noticed that the hair matrix and hair bulb are much smaller in comparison to a normal hair. This leads me to believe that there has been physical damage and over time the hair follicle matrix has slowly become keratinized. Effectively walling in where the hair matrix should normally grow. However, even though hairs are shedding, I am still experiencing new hair growth. It is my belief that over time the allantoin will continue to soften the keratinized cells and the new hair will continue to push those softened cells upward and out. This means that multiple hair cycles will need to occur before the hair is strong and rooted well enough to be self sustaining.

Thanks as always for following my blog.

On one more note. The new hairs seems to grow within groups or clusters. I have been sick lately but I have been working on a detailed post of the side effects and benefits of lowering your cortisol levels. I'll post that as soon as I am done.

Comparison Pictures

I shaved my head tonight but it's getting late so I will post comparisons tomorrow. I'm pretty excited about the results so far and I hope that you all will be able to see it too. I've noticed my skin getting darker in the areas where new hairs are coming in, so I will try and show that as well.
